Farm Box Program

Winter Season Info, Dates, Details - Please Read!

HOW DOES IT WORK? Winter season members will receive 3 Farm Boxes delivered every-other-week over a six week period. (Current members: please note that this is a change from last season!) Select the pick-up location closest to your home or work. Most deliveries are made in the morning between 8:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. and we provide each group with an estimated time of delivery at the start of the season. Because of unknowns like traffic and inclement weather, as soon as your group's Farm Boxes have been delivered, you will receive a text
message. We ask members to pick-up at their earliest opportunity -- no later
than 6pm is our recommendation, out of respect for our hosts. When you arrive,
look for the Farm Box with your name on it, grab it, and go!

WHAT GROWS IN NORTHEAST TEXAS IN THE WINTER?  Our Winter Program is a little different from our other seasons.  From the end of November to the beginning of March, we grow primarily leafy greens and, as a result, our Winter season will be greens heavy! Besides fresh spinach, kales, and bok choy, members can also look forward to petite arugula and mixed lettuces. Additionally, it was a great year for sweet potatoes and fall squash on the farm, so these crops will also be a part of the winter program.  Sweet peppers are planted in the greenhouse and petite root crops will also go in the ground in early December.

HOW MUCH IS IN EACH BOX?  As the winter season presents some limitations
to what all we can grow on the farm, we are planning for a goal of providing
5-6 different vegetables for each Farm Box. Please note that the winter season will be leafy-green heavy!  Each Farm Box will contain a minimum of 3 different leafy greens.  Herbs are included when they are in season. Fruit is only available during our summer season, when it is in season. Each portion of these 5-6 items we include should be enough for feeding 2 to 4 people one serving, depending on your eating habits and the preparation you've got planned.

It’s possible you may yield more servings from one item in your box -- let's say, arugula, or your sweet potatoes -- depending on how you are using that item in the kitchen or what your recipe calls for. Rather than promise a certain amount of "lbs" of veggies per box, our rule of thumb is that we plan to grow enough on our farm to be able to harvest 5-6 different items for each of your Farm Boxes during any given season. We aim to be generous!

WHAT IS THE WINTER SEASON SCHEDULE?  As farming is weather-dependent, these dates are not exact but reflect our very best guess. We know it can be helpful for planning purposes to have an *idea* of what the schedule is. Please know that we may need to change these dates -- moving them sooner or later -- as we see how things are growing closer to the season's start.

GROUP 1 / Thursdays - HP Lorraine, HP Beverly, UP Caruth, Kessler Park, Lakewood, Lakewood Trails, White Rock, On-Farm Pickup (Thursdays: 1/22, 2/5, 2/19)

GROUP 2 / Thursdays – Silverado Trail (McKinney), North Frisco, Richardson, PR Azalea, PR Rick's Circle, Midway Hollow, M Streets (Thursdays: 1/29, 2/12, 2/26)

WHAT IF YOU HAVE TO MISS A PICK-UP? Of course, we encourage you not to miss a pick-up so you don't miss out on that week's seasonal bounty, but you have a few options if you cannot pickup due to unavoidable travel, etc.

1) Have a friend or neighbor pick-up on your behalf.

2) Let us know the date you cannot pickup in advance of the season and we will put your name on the list for our
make-up box delivery day. The make-up box delivery day will be scheduled at the
end of the season and may not fall on your regular Farm Box day. If you have to
miss more than one pick-up during the regular season, we encourage you to
consider whether or not a subscription is a good fit for you.

3) If during any given season you have a unique situation arise, please just send us an email and let us know. We know life can throw a curve ball sometimes!

*Please note that if you forget to pick-up a Farm Box (you haven't let us know in advance and we have harvested and delivered one for you), we cannot credit you a make-up Farm Box. Thank you for understanding!
